Is the online credit check with AT&T the same as getting a credit check in the store?

When a bank does a credit check, can they find out the balances in your checking accounts?

Will the Credit Card company run a new Credit check?

I want to change my name for personal reasons. The thing is that my credit rating has kind of tanked in the last couple of years because I used to have some financial problems. I still have a Mastercard from my bank, but I need to know if they would run a new credit check on me when I request a new card after I change my name.

If they do run a new check, then they will surely cancel my card which I cannot allow to happen. This is the only thing keeping me from going ahead and changing my name.

Any help would be appreciated!
