Can someone run a credit check without your permission?

deYoung asked:

Can someone run a credit check on you without your permission? Does your signature on an application (even though it doesn’t state that this will be done) imply that you’ve given your permission for a credit check to be run? There was no fee charged for a credit check, nothing on the application that stated that one would be run, and no mention of it verbally.
Can this be done without your permission?

    Sometimes yes they can.

If you applied for credit weather it’s a credit card, car loan whatever then you you have consented to have your credit pulled.

Also if it’s a company you already have credit with they have the right to check your credit anytime they want to. It’s a soft pull and doe’s not effect your score.

Now, if it’s for a job application hidden in the fine print is a clause that allows them to check your credit as soon as you sign the application.
