will being the victim of ID theft prohibit me from getting a job where a credit check is required?

bleekjohnson asked:

I’m up for a job and the credit check is required as part of a background check. I discovered two years ago that someone stole my ID and opened a ton of accounts. I’ve removed all of the fraudulent information from one of my credit reports, but some of the information is still listed on the other two. Will this stop me from getting the job? I have been working to remove this information.

Can you provide a letter from an investigative authority that looked into the claims as proof that you are not the culprit? Perhaps that would help

My question is, why did you only get the information removed from one credit report? If you followed the FTC guidelines for ID theft (which I assume you did) then there is no way this should be on your credit report.

You need to move ASAP to get all 3 reports clear of fraudulent accounts. Beyond that, if you have any paperwork from the ID theft, you can try showing that to the employer and it should be ok.
