Will the Credit Card company run a new Credit check?
fabianpetrulio asked:
I want to change my name for personal reasons. The thing is that my credit rating has kind of tanked in the last couple of years because I used to have some financial problems. I still have a Mastercard from my bank, but I need to know if they would run a new credit check on me when I request a new card after I change my name.

If they do run a new check, then they will surely cancel my card which I cannot allow to happen. This is the only thing keeping me from going ahead and changing my name.
Any help would be appreciated!

I don’t think they will allow you to just change your name on the card… I am pretty sure they would run your credit again. You should call them and inquire about it, as a general question.

Legal name changes are nothing out of the ordinary and are an easy process that take no more than 5-minutes in from of the judge.
But If you are changing your name to hide from the law or to commit fraud or avoid other obligations, the judge will not grant your petition.
Before you see the judge, the clerks will run a background check on you to make sure you are who you said you are and that your reason for the petition is not intended to commit any illicit acts.
What you need to do is once you get final judgment for the name change, follow the steps appointed by the court. These are simple tasks.
#1 Publish the change of name in your local newspaper.
#2 Notify the change by calling your credit cards, bank, mortgage company, title company, auto loan, the Social Security Administration and any other entity that have you name.
Note, some will require written proof of the legal name change., follow their instructions and within 3-weeks, you should have your name in all legal entities.
None of your creditors will run a credit check on you, because you are providing them with essential questions to identified yourself and those are questions only you can provide.
All new applications whether be with your old name or new current name, will involve a credit inquiry.
