why do **** sites say access is free and yet they ask for credit card numbers to verify age(so they say)?

it’s pretty simple–they take your credit card info, check to see if there’s $40 or so available on it, and then charge you for it if you don’t cancel your ‘free’ account after three days. They’ll probably do it anyway though.
That’s what you get for trying to find free ******* movies.

It is a scam to get you to pay, they think that because it is a **** site you will not complain to BBB or wherever, a credit card does NOT give indication of age, and never will, do not be fooled into giving that information out.
Also when buying on the web ensure that there is a little locked padlock in bottom right of Internet explorer to show you are on a secure site, or that NOTE the s for secure.
Better still try subscribing to PayPal, they do the checking for you, and then you never have to give your card details out again. (A good many vendors accept PayPal)
Just be very carefull whatever you do.
