Best way to get cleared on credit check for an apartment?
blondie22 asked:
Here’s the situation…I have good credit but only make $31,000 a year, my boyfriend has bad credit but makes alot more. Should we both be listed as cosigners and both have credit checks done or should we list him as an occupant and only credit check me? We really love this apartment complex and I’d **** to get turned down. Neither of us have rented before.

Sorry, both parties intending to live in an apartment must fill out applications, and both will have their credit reports checked. You’ll have to face the music sooner or later. The fact that neither of you have rented before is not a good sign.

If you are both living there you both must be on the lease.
The apartment management is going to take the total income into account when taking your application.
They will do a background check and if there are no eviction that is a good thing but they will want to know your previous rental history, or none in your case.
You can’t “both be listed as cosigners” A cosigner is something completely different – that is a person who is vouching for you and would take responsibility if you default on the legal contract (the lease)

No you both don’t have to have a credit check. i moved into to an apartment with a relative their name was on the lease & they were the only ones that had to have the credit check but i was put on it as for the number of people living in the building. you may need a co-signer. in which they would need to have some decent credit. Can you make the rent and utilities on your own if he left you with your income alone? if so then it should be approved in your name alone. but with the way the economy is they may request him to be on it or a co-signer. when this happened to me it was about 4 yrs ago.
