How do apartments check credit scores?

asked:

My fiance and I are looking for an apartment, I found one that I absolutely love and we took home an application. While filling it out I discovered they do a credit check, I checked my score and its excellent at 740. My finace did the same and it’s not so great…below 600. Will they combine our scores or deny us because his credit is so low?

They may deny it. My husband is currently not on our lease because they would take me, but wouldn’t take him as a lease holder.

So I now have the lease all by myself, but hubbie lives here too, and he pays the rent. lol. But his credit is really really low. About as low as it is possible for it to get. He kind of decided just not to pay credit cards anymore a few years back. The good thing about it is that he only owes about 25% of the amount he originally used the cards for. lol.

I don’t feel bad, credit card companies hose people all the time. They need to get screwed themselves sometimes too. ;)

It really depends on WHY your fiances score is so low. Any past evictions or judgments will most likely get him denied.
