How do I protect against possible id theft on a rental credit check?

If I have to provide a SS# for the credit check how do I know the landlord will protect the info from possible loss?

    You should ask them what their policy is regarding your confiential information in their files. If you aren’t comfortable with it, I suggest you provide them with a copy of your credit history. Of course, you need to ask them if they will accept that.

    Unfortunately there are no guarantees, which is why you should monitor your credit report periodically. Join a site like that will send you alerts if anything changes on your report, so you can take the necessary actions.

    The reason you protect your social security number is because it is the number used to organize and find all your credit information. A person or company giving you credit (or providing a product such as allowing you to rent a house) will always need to pull up your credit history using your social security number. I would ask them how they will be protecting my information. They should have a plan for shedding and destroying the information at some point (and storing it in a safe place until that date).

    ask them what their policy is? more thank likely if u supply ur current credit history ran by yourself they will more than liley accept it. most places keep that information confidentail and filed.
